Running a ping and traceroute on Windows or MAC OS X

If you are having speed or connection issues with your nbn service, running a ping and traceroute from your local computer helps understand if there are any IP network issues.  

Please use the following commands and email the results to us, along with your NBN fault report:

Windows

  • Click the Windows icon on the left corner 
  • type CMD 
  • Maximise the screen 
  • Type ping 8.8.8.8 and push enter 
  • Type tracert -d 8.8.8.8 and push enter 
  • Take a screenshot (Alt-PrintScreen keys) 

Mac OS X

  • Open a command terminal (in applications -> utilities) 
  • Maximise the screen 
  • Type ping 8.8.8.8 and push enter 
  • Type traceroute -n 8.8.8.8 and push enter 
  • Take a screenshot (Command-Shift-4 )
